Experience of the stay
This was my first time booking a stay with Hafh! I reserved a yagura room for two adults and two kids aged 6 and 2.5.
Since Hafh only allows reservations for two adults, I checked the official site for sleeping arrangements.
Even though Kumamoto is my hometown, I chose this for the kids to enjoy the experience of staying in a hotel while saving on transportation and effort!
We parked in a partner prefectural parking lot, and it was just a 4-5 minute walk to the hotel, making travel easy even with kids.
We took the elevator from the entrance along the train street to the third floor for check-in at 3 PM. It was busy since it was GW, but we only had to queue at check-in.
The yagura room was just as we imagined; the kids were so excited and had a great time playing together!♡
☆ Good Points for Families
- First, the lower sofa turns into a bed, so my large husband slept below while the kids and I were comfortably on top together.
- There was a washing area in the bath, allowing for a leisurely bath. They even prepared towels for the bedding. (Adults had free pajamas provided, but not for the kids.)
- The tatami mats allowed us to enter without shoes, which let the kids play freely.
- After checking in early and the kids playing around in the room, we could quickly head out for dinner. We returned soon after for a bath and enjoyed a piano live performance at 8 PM, which both kids and parents loved.
- For breakfast, the kids, who don't eat much, bought bread from a bakery on the second floor the day before. I could order a breakfast set and pay on the day, satisfying the parents too!
- With checkout at 11 AM, we could leisurely prepare in the room.
★ Points of Concern
Not so much a disappointment but something to be cautious about...
- The upper part of the yagura room is open, and younger children could feel it’s a bit dangerous as they can peek down. I feel it’s safer when they are closer to 3 years old. There are no handrails on the stairs, and our younger child sat down to go down.
- My tall husband constantly felt the need to be cautious of the upper area, leading to some tension in his shoulders. After drinking, he bumped his head on the yagura part...
Even during GW, we could stay affordably with the usual number of coins, and it was reassuring to know cancellations were fine until the day before. Considering the points of concern, both the kids and parents were highly satisfied, and our first Hafh trip was a big success! (^_^)
Experiences during the trip
Before checking into the hotel, we used the Minomaru parking lot and enjoyed a planetarium show at the Kumamoto Museum (it featured Doraemon during GW).
We walked to Ninomaru Park, where the kids climbed trees and ran around (lol). Afterward, we had lunch at the cafe next to the art museum in the park. On nice days, you can eat at the outdoor tables, which is great for families with kids. They also provided high chairs, and we shared hashed beef and hot sandwiches. They even lent us children’s plates!
Ninomaru Park has a lawn where you can have a picnic, so it might be nice when the weather is pleasant!
I highly recommend it!♡
