After successful performances with the band in Liverpool and Hamburg, where he met his fiancée, photographer Astrid Kirchherr, Sutcliffe left the band in July 1961 to pursue his art studies. He tragically passed away in 1962 at the age of 21. Many of Kirchherr's early photographs of the Beatles, including signed copies and other memorabilia, are displayed in the hotel.
