Experience of the stay
We stayed there during New Year’s in 2025.
Since HafH doesn’t charge the New Year’s prices, it was super affordable! We traveled with our four-year-old train-loving son and one-year-old daughter for a two-day, one-night stay focused on the Kyoto Railway Museum and the Umekoji area. We got an additional 5% discount, making it even more worthwhile.
The distance from the nearest station was quite manageable even carrying children, and the lobby was spacious and had big sofas.
Since we had some time before check-in, we let the kids play in the playground inside (a wooden ball pit) before checking in comfortably. (We also went to play again after check-in.)
The Wood Flat Twin room was not particularly spacious, but it was compact enough to keep an eye on both young children, so it was not inconvenient at all.
We could easily spend time in the hotel and quickly go to Umekoji Park (there’s also a convenience store) and it’s close to both the Kyoto Railway Museum and the Kyoto Aquarium, which is perfect for families.
We planned to go for dinner at a nearby barbecue restaurant, but due to the kids' circumstances, we changed our plans and ordered takeout from the hotel. I tasted the kids' plate and it was delicious.
We checked out the rooftop to see if we could spot the Shinkansen, and after the kids fell asleep, we enjoyed some drinks and snacks in the drink bar for a brief couple's chat time.
For breakfast, we each wanted to eat slowly, so we chose to takeout breakfast for the kids, and adults took turns going to the restaurant to eat. (The atmosphere was also easy for dining with children.)
Since it was a New Year's menu, the breakfast price was slightly higher than the usual price (3,630 yen/adult), but the additional charges were only the adult breakfast fee and the 4-year-old's facility-use fee of 3,300 yen, making it a good deal!
If I had to point out something, the bath was compact and had a public bath style, which might be a challenge for those with toddlers. However, the staff were very kind and attentive from the prior messages, and we were extremely satisfied.
They even lent us a blanket for the kids, and it was nice that the 4-year-old could wear stylish pajamas like the adults.
Experiences during the trip
On the first day, we played at Umekoji Park while enjoying our hotel stay, and then on the second day, we headed to the Kyoto Railway Museum in the morning. (It was an impressive museum that adults could also enjoy.)
For lunch, we considered the lunch buffet at Poteru Kyoto, but decided to go for the lunch buffet at The Royal Park, which had Shinkansen-themed dishes, located in the same Umekoji area. After a quick tour of the Kyoto Aquarium for about 1.5 hours, we headed back home.
