Experience of the stay
We wanted to stay as a family of four (2 adults + 2 elementary school kids), so we each made reservations through Haf (kids up to elementary school can stay free of charge for bed-sharing!).
The beds in the room weren't singles but double beds, so even with the elementary school kids sharing the bed, we could sleep comfortably and spaciously (^^)!
I had contacted them in advance, and they arranged for our rooms to be next to each other.
In front of the front desk, there was a welcome drink, which we could take to our room, so it was very helpful. Having welcome drinks at hotels really boosts the satisfaction level. We arrived on a very cold night, and hot coffee felt great.
Since there's a large public bath here, instead of the room, we went to the bath with the kids. Luckily, we were able to use it almost exclusively, and we had a very pleasant bathing experience! I think it’s categorized as a business hotel, but having an open-air bath was such a pleasant surprise.
Although it wasn't included in the Haff reservation, we could add breakfast during check-in, so we requested breakfast as well. The dining area was bright and spacious, and we could eat immediately without any wait (^^)
The person who seemed to be the manager provided very pleasant service and even taught us about nearby sightseeing spots and chatted with the kids... it made for a really enjoyable stay.
From the hotel entrance, we could also see Nagahama Castle!
This time wasn't possible due to time constraints, but there are many sightseeing attractions nearby. I particularly want to visit Chikubushima next time. It seems there is a ferry terminal about 5 minutes from the hotel. When that happens, I would love to stay at this hotel again!
Experiences during the trip
We had breakfast at the hotel and after relaxing for a bit, headed towards Kurokabe Square. It's just a few minutes by car, but you can also walk there!
The kids made glass during a cut glass experience. This was available for elementary school students, and although it was same-day registration, there were spots open, so they got to participate. It seemed difficult but was surprisingly easy, and after a bit of practice, they were ready for the real thing! They were very engrossed in it.
With a roughly 30-minute experience, they could take the glass home the same day, making for a great memento.
We also enjoyed walking around and trying various foods 😋 The Omi beef sushi was incredibly delicious, so for those who go, definitely give it a try!(^^)
Apparently, the black Kurokabe soft ice cream made with bamboo charcoal is famous, and I wanted to try it, but that day was extremely cold, and I regretted giving up ice cream.
I definitely want to try it next time I go!
