Experience of the stay
I stayed in a twin room newly renovated facing Yake-dake. Usually, with Hafh, you get a room-only option, but here it was great to have two meals included.
As I love hiking, I have visited Kamikochi many times, but this was the first time I stayed at a hotel and relaxed, instead of rushing to hike early in the morning, camping, or passing by exhausted after descending.
It's quite convenient, just about a 10-minute walk from the Kamikochi Bus Terminal right after crossing Kappa Bridge.
The dinner I was looking forward to was a French course dinner using plenty of seasonal ingredients from Shinshu.
The appetizer of Shinshu salmon from Hakuba Village and couscous was delicious. I could also drink various Nagano cider and wines.
Breakfast was a buffet. It was a bit chilly in the morning, so I ate indoors, but the view was so beautiful that when the weather becomes nice, it would be wonderful to have breakfast on the morning terrace.
The apple butter was incredibly delicious, and I took advantage of the all-you-can-eat to indulge myself.
Experiences during the trip
I went on a short hike to Gakuzawa.
There is a trailhead near the hotel.
From Kappa Bridge to Gakuzawa Hut, it takes about 2.5 hours. If you take your time enjoying the views, it will take about 3 hours.
Along the way, you can enjoy the natural air conditioner 'Kazeana' famous in Gakuzawa and some observation decks.
After coming down, I had cake at the hotel café.
*Please note that you need hiking gear as this is a mountain trail. There are many reports of bear sightings in this area, so please be careful.
