GUIDELINE FOR COVID-19 INFECTION PREVENTION MEASURES

New Travel Etiquette –
7 steps to prevent COVID infection while traveling

From your house to your travel destination and back home again, we want to reduce your risk of novel coronavirus infection. Looking at contact and droplet transmission risks, and taking transportation and staff movement into consideration, we’ve put together the following information to help keep our HafH Neighbors (HafH members) as safe as possible.

(1) Avoid the3Cs
(Close contact, crowded places, confined spaces)

・Avoid public transport as much as possible and travel by rent-a-car
・Make travel bookings online rather than in person
・Refrain from traveling in large groups

(2) Avoid contact with others where possible

・Maintain social distancing rules by keeping 2 meters apart from others even at your travel destination
・Remember to social distance even with hotel staff, and avoid making non-essential and non-urgent requests

(3) Be sure to wear a mask

・Be meticulous in your actions while traveling to avoid becoming a COVID-19 spreader
・Wear a mask on the plane. Wear a mask inside your rent-a-car. Wear a mask when entering venues. These are the types of precautions you can take to help prevent the spread of COVID-19

(4) Diligently wash hands, gargle, and sanitize

・Make it a habit to wash and sanitize your hands after touching anything while traveling
・Wash and even sanitize your hands especially after touching door knobs, car steering wheels, or after you’ve been shopping, etc.
・Gargle after being out to prevent infection/infecting others
Hand Washing Etiquette (Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare)

(5) Be mindful of air circulation (ventilation)

・Keeping the air conditioning/heating on inside a car/taxi, etc., with windows closed results in poor ventilation. Be sure to regularly open the window and allow fresh air in to maintain good ventilation
・Be sure to properly ventilate the room at your place of accommodation by opening the window, etc.
※In circumstances where you are unable to open the window, use air conditioning and exhaust fans to maintain good ventilation
・While ventilation systems on airplanes circulate the air inside the cabin every 2 minutes, just like your seatbelt, make sure to have your mask on at all times

(6) Be mindful of your physical condition

・Monitor your health (temperature checks, etc.) before and during your travels
・If you feel a fever coming on or start to exhibit any symptoms at all, refrain from going out or moving around from place to place

(7) Be aware when eating out at restaurants

・Make reservations in advance for restaurants and avoid going during peak hours
・Maintain your distance from others in store by removing chairs, etc.
・Limit the amount of conversation while eating as much as possible

《COVID-19 Prevention Measures for properties in the HafH Network》

As an unspecified number of guests will be staying in the accommodation facility for any given amount of time, it is important to avoid the 3Cs (close contact, crowded places, confined spaces), all of which are considered to be a high risk for outbreaks.
Contact and airborne droplets are said to be the main route of transmission for COVID-19. Taking these risks into consideration HafH has developed guidelines for accommodation facilities to follow, and we are requesting all properties in the HafH Network to comply.
We are asking for cooperation and understanding from all HafH Neighbors.
We will continue to strive to make HafH a safe environment for all.

Updated Travel Information Regarding COVID-19 (as of May 2020)

(1) Social Distancing on flights

Air from outside the aircraft is constantly being drawn inside and then pumped back outside again, even when the plane is on the ground. Fitted with advanced filtration systems, air within the entire cabin is completely renewed every 2 to 3 minutes, ensuring adequate ventilation.

Onboard social distancing has been put in place to prevent crowding and close contact. We have therefore disabled advance seat selection to ensure that we can provide enough space between passengers. To be able to maintain these social distancing measures, passenger numbers have been reduced on flights.

(2) Aircraft Cabin Sanitization

During nighttime maintenance, we are sanitizing the areas around seating, tray tables, arm rests, lavatories (including door knob), sinks and/or any areas passengers may touch during a flight.

(3)  Cabin Crew PPE

As a precautionary measure, cabin crew will be wearing face masks and gloves on both international and domestic flights. Ground crew at airports will also be wearing masks.

(4) Cabin Crew Health Management

(5) Changes to Inflight Services

Pillow and blanket services are currently cancelled, and in place of the usual drink service, tea will be served in individual juice boxes.

(1) Train Station Health Measures

In addition to regular cleaning, we have been thoroughly disinfecting train stations. Soaps and sanitizers have been installed in all major stations. Station staff are wearing masks, and anti-droplet sheeting has been set up.

(2) Onboard Health Measures

As part of our cleaning process, thorough sanitization is being undertaken using disinfectants, etc. Air-conditioning and ventilation systems are installed in carriages on Shinkansen and express trains, with air onboard being refreshed every 6 to 8 minutes.
