The residence of the Okuyama family, which has continued to protect the area and support its development
Gennai Residence is a mansion consisting of a group of buildings built from the mid-Meiji period to the early Taisho period.
The Okuyama family, which began with Takahashi Gennai, has lived in the Asatachi district of Shirataka Town for more than 200 years, and has contributed to the economic and cultural development of the town for generations.
Among them, the first generation, Gennai Takahashi, was a person who worked hard in agriculture and at one time taught his disciples about reading and calligraphy, and at other times devoted himself to helping the poor and supporting industry, so much so that a monument was erected by the villagers.
Renovation of the mansion of a rich farmer who continued to support the development of the region
The premises are dotted with various warehouses centered on the main house, such as a storehouse of armory, a vault, and a miso storehouse.
